This school does not like to train women to be a driver. I made it thru a week and a half and left. Whenever a woman gets behind the wheel the men instructors are right there yelling at them. When the guys are in the instructors are busy talking and not paying attention to the guys. What a joke! I would never go back to this school or work for Swift ever.
I had thirteen years of over road with a eight-teen year break. The time I spent in school was well spent, bringing me back up to current on all aspects of safety and yes it brought back a very rusty driving skill up to a standard that surpassed my skill level prior to going to school.
I went to Swift Academy and well it wasnt easy but I made it threw…they tell you one thing to get you there but once you get there its a whole different story. and I was on night training at the Range and it is very hard to learn monuvers at night. I had to stay an extra week. And they tell you to bring 150 dollars to live on and well that just isnt enought. What do they expect you came there for a job were do they get your gonna have money to wash clothes and eat on for 4 weeks.
And they put you in a Roach Motel. And yes you have to share a room ..4 people to a room … my list could go on and on..but the traners were very very nice I give them a thumbs up on there trainers got a great team going on…
First let me explian I did not pass there physical.
Over all I found the school to be very professional. I spent 3 months picking the school I wanted to go to.
The main problem is the recruiters lie to get you there, they will say anything
I trained and drove for Swift Trans., Inc. from June 2007 to August 2007 dispatched out of Memphis, Tennessee 38116.
Anyone who applies to work and drive for Swift… You’ll be sorry and regret you did.
If you like to be lied to, jerked around, cheated out of pay and given a worn out and problematic truck. Go right ahead and remember this… I told you so!
Truthfully I have been a driver off and on for 20 years and take it from me. The trucking industry is not worth the time, pay, responsibility and the hassle of being a trucker. I compare it to living like a stressed out gypsy that feel exploited and entrapped. If you leave Swift on no good terms. You will be black balled by the trucking industry by the DAC report.
DAC is a corporate private driver report that you have no rights to contest or give your response to the allogations leveraged against you by the hateful management of the company. Therefore, if you quit before your force to sign agreement , you’ll be blackballed
I just left swift school and they teach who they want to , you are wasting your time going to the school , all they look at you as money. we all tryed hard but they don’t teach and they are is used up truck driver that came in house to get off the road, they will tell you that they have their CDL you are trying to get your. they will make you feel so bad about yourself and what you know you can do
I went to Swifts school in Millington Tn. Passed and was the top of my class, and then they stuck me with trainers for the over the road training that had no right to be on the road at all!. I was alseep in the top bunk and the jerk started driving down the road while I was in the bunk, I had to fight with him to get the truck stoped to get down from the bunk. then he was going down I70 in CO. and was doing 60 on a strech that its posted 35 cuz of all the twist and turns. he almost rolled the truck 3 times. called swift and they told me to shut up and not complain cuz no other companies with hire me if I quit them cuz they would make sure my DAC said enough to ruin me.
Swift has a GOOD training program. Problem: mentors, my mentor & i got along ok, he’s an owner/operator, thought he could do whatever he wanted, no rules applied to him. Falsified log books, no maintenance to his truck, i called it “THA ROLLING TRASH CAN/ PUBLIC TOILET”. Once my training was done, i was left 4 states away with no way to get home. Swift supplied a bus ticket after i realized i was stranded(2 days later). My purpose was to make him MONEY. I drove at night always & most of what i learned i did on my own; he was always asleep. I was there to drive him around while he played with his toys if he was awake. overall the company itself is ok.
I have been through the Swift school in Millington, TN. Its tough, but so is life. My classroom instructors were the best. Any question you asked they answered. The range instructors are great. They might be a little over burdened but what teacher is not. If you want someone to hold your hand and tell you everything is ok then this might not be the place for you. If you have a tough mind and can handle long hard days or nights in all kinds of weather then its fine. I was on night shift and had to learn all my skills at night. I think that for that reason I am a better trained driver than someone who learns on nice sunny days. Take any complaints and remember Swift has over 18000 drivers. They are the largest company in America. The first thing they teach you is to take pride in what you do. You have to want to do this, you have to fight for this, but when you finish your 3 weeks then you feel as if you can do anything. It wasn’t all smiles and laughs. I am 40+ years old and made it though without quiting. If I can do it then you younger guys and girls damm sure can.
I found out that the government and corporations stand behind and support Swift Tarns., Inc. What they’re doing is driving down the cost of shipping by doing business cheaper than their competition.
Swift keeps driver’s who buy trucks from them and operate as Driver Trainers. These so called Mentors are cheap labor exploiters.
Unless other trucking companies have a secure nitch… companies like Swift’s mission is to driver the competition out of business.
Essentially, this game plan is to make more money for the trucking industry’s shareholders on Wall Street. These scum bags on Wall Street always buy up companies and tweak them, chop them up, sell the off in peices and then build up another company to destroy. Swift will see it’s day of reckoning when their profit margin begins to fall.
Sad part is the stupid truck drivers that don’t work for themselves.
My Advice… Get out of trucking! Go back to college and learn a trade you enjoy and be your own business owner. The rewards are powerful. You’ll have more freedom, power, control and profit. Being an employee is NOT empowerment. It’s enslavement!
The best information i have found exactly here. Keep going Thank you
who mentioned about a dac report you are so right rip off company what a joke if they think they are top now wait because they are going down
According to a letter I got today, Anyone who got their license thru Swift’s Millington facility is having their licenses invalidated until a full retest is completed at your home state.
I went to millington tenn swift school and because I smiply did not understand a few things that they where try to teach me. And quite a few were where being being treated that way. We all were simply trying to do what was trying t do what we were being asked to do and because we didn’t get what they were saying fast enough we were told to leave.
